How Will The Veterinarian Diagnose Bladder Issues In My Cat?

How do veterinarians figure out if a cat has FLUTD. First, the veterinarian will examine your cat and might test their pee via a urine analysis to see if anything unusual is seen. This is often performed in conjunction with blood work to make sure your cat is overall healthy or if other issues, such as with their kidneys, are also of concern.  Possible abnormalities may include things like blood, bacteria, or crystals in the urine. Veterinarians may also wish to take X-rays or perform an ultrasound to see inside the cat's body and check for stones or other problems by better visualizing the bladder. In some cases, additional and more specific diagnostics may be discussed such as urine culture, which means to try to grow bacteria living in the urine, or other specific blood or specialized tests. Finding out what's wrong with your cat can take time and sometimes multiple tests. Even if it takes a while to figure it out, these tests are essential to make sure your cat gets the right treatment for the underlying cause of their FLUTD. As we have discussed, there are multiple causes of FLUTD, and by narrowing down the most likely of these, we can work to treat your pet as specifically and individually as possible.
